How much scholarship money can you get in Italy?

Italy funds international students through regional grants, government scholarships and EU programmes. Here are the amounts published for 2026/27, converted into Indian rupees.

DSU: grants from Italian regions, based on family income. MAECI: scholarships from Italy’s foreign ministry. Invest Your Talent: an Italian government programme for Master’s students. ISEE: the income form used to work out DSU.

Regional DSU grants: what each region pays

Open to Bachelor’s and Master’s students at public universities, based on family income (ISEE Parificato). Figures are the top cash grant for students living away from home in the lowest income band, 2026/27. They come with a tuition waiver, and most regions add free meals or housing.

Lower income bands receive less, and students who get a free bed or meals have their cash grant reduced accordingly.

About Us

Our journey in Italy began in 2021, when we came to pursue our master’s degrees in Economics and Engineering in the Lazio region.

For the past four years, we have been helping students across India who dream of studying abroad. Having lived in Italy ourselves, we understand the challenges of moving to a new country and finding the right guidance.

That is why we started this online service: to make honest, reliable guidance accessible to students across India who wish to study in Italy and other European countries.

We are here to support your dreams, and to help you take your first steps towards an international future with confidence.

Scholaritalia is led by Nikhil Kumar Mawar, together with our co-partners Prerna Karn, who is based in Cassino, Italy, and Vansh Singh, who is based in Delhi, India.

We have walked this path ourselves, and now we are here to help you walk yours.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to speak Italian?

Not for English-taught programs, but Italian helps daily life and some universities ask for it. Always check each program's language requirements.

Which visa do I need?

Non-EU students typically apply for a national long-stay student visa through the Italian embassy or consulate, after pre-enrolment on Universitaly. Check current rules on the official Italian foreign ministry site.

Are scholarships available for Indian students?

Yes. Options include regional right-to-study (DSU) scholarships, university merit awards and government programs. Eligibility and deadlines change every year.

Can I work while studying?

Student visa holders may be allowed limited part-time work. Confirm the current weekly and annual limits before planning your budget.

What marks or test scores do I need?

Requirements depend on the university and programme. Many ask for a minimum grade in your previous degree, and some ask for IELTS or similar. Others accept alternatives or do not require a test. We check this for each shortlisted programme.

Do I need an entrance test for medicine?

English-taught medicine programmes generally require an entrance exam such as the IMAT. Rules change each year, so confirm the current one on the official Ministry and university pages.

How long does the whole process take?

Plan for several months from first application to visa approval. We recommend starting 8 to 10 months before your intake, because deadlines, scholarship portals and visa appointments all have fixed dates.

What if I am not eligible for a scholarship?

We tell you honestly at the free assessment. Eligibility depends on your documents, income and the region. If you do not qualify for one scheme, we look at others or at lower-cost universities. We never promise an award.

What does the visa process cost me besides your fee?

You pay the visa fee and VFS charges directly, and you must show proof of funds as required by the consulate. See the section above for what is paid separately.

Is the meeting really free?

Yes, orientation meetings are free and carry no obligation. (Edit this to match your policy.)
